Description: Born and educated in the Netherlands, Ria Blaas is a Vermont sculptor and puppeteer whose works are in private and public collections. She has worked in clay, stone, and bronze but wood has become her main medium, because of its versatility, availability and its humility. At the core of her sculpture are the human being and the struggles we all face in living on this earth together. During school residencies, students work toward the realization of one or several large three-dimensional objects -- made of wood and recycled materials, often culminating in a theatrical presentation with the participants, thus breathing life and reality into their own creations.
